I offer one-on-one intuitive and body-based Internal Family Systems guidance/coaching. My sessions integrate the Internal Family Systems method with additional approaches including awareness through movement, meditation, touch (when in person), sex/gender/intimacy expansion coaching, divination, writing, and ritual and spiritual guidance.

I orient to personal transformation as inextricable from understanding (and grieving) the ways that structural oppression limits us and negatively impacts our psycho-spiritual-ecological-physiological wellness and sense of connection no matter our identity. I see myself as a guide and support for people to learn/develop an ongoing practice that will offer them greater intimacy with themselves, others, and the more-than-human world through recognizing and alchemizing psycho-physical-spiritual wounds and patterns that limit their access to love, connection, delight, calm, and wisdom. Anxiety, self-esteem issues, career questions/changes, chronic illness, sex, kink, gender, and sexuality, romantic relationship struggles and polyamory, interpersonal boundaries, differentiation from family and culture of origin, creativity, and spirituality are all areas I love working on with clients.

I also work with clients on designing, executing, and preparing for ritual, ceremony, and celebration related to transformation and movement through life’s milestones and am available for creative consultation for artists working on a project. More coming soon on these offerings!

I have been engaged with the Internal Family Systems for 20 years and completed my level-1 training in 2016, incorporating the model into one-on-one work, workshops, and activist spaces since. Prior to my level 1 training in IFS, I received individual sessions with IFS’ synthesizer Richard Schwartz for more than ten years. Here, I gained a deep love for and intimate understanding of the model and work. I have been engaged in Buddhist practice and philosophy primarily in the Insight Meditation lineages for over 20 years, including with teachers Pascal Auclair and Kittisaro and Thanissara. The influence of dance, performance, and other creative somatic practices is core to how I approach my one-on-one work. Some of the teachers/approaches I have been engaged with here include Body Weather Laboratory, Authentic Movement, Contact Improvisation, and Deborah Hay. I completed a practice-based PhD in Art from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, exploring psycho-spiritual-somatic-social practices for re-enchantment and recovery from delusions of separation. Eco-spirituality, divination, and DREAMWORK (I studied with choreographer and philosopher Mala Kline) also inform my practice. I practiced Hatha Yoga for over twenty years and taught for a decade, having studied the form most extensively with Integral Yoga, Eric Schiffman, Elena Brower, and Debra Bluth. Finally, I am deeply influenced by Barbara Carrellas’ work and am a certified practitioner of her Urban Tantra method, and also trained in Bondassage and Elysium.

It is important that clients understand that I am not a licensed therapist or trauma specialist, though I can recommend approaches to trauma work and practitioners. I work with people occasionally or on an ongoing basis (once a month or every week/two weeks) for a period of time. Sessions happen via voice call and are 90 minutes. Sliding scale packages are available. Please reach out with questions, for pricing, and to book a session: hjvanderkolk (at) gmail (dot) com.

Testimonials:

"I found counseling with Hana to be a revelatory alternative to traditional talk therapy. Each session was grounded in bodily and spiritual wisdom, which brought me to new depths of self-knowledge and self-love. I connected with overlooked and misunderstood parts of myself, which in turn allowed me to change my life for the better in concrete ways. My work with Hana also completely changed my relationship to desire, which is now a positive guiding force in my life, instead of desperation I do my best to manage. I use the IFS process Hana taught me every day, and I feel happier and more like myself than ever before." - anonymous

“Working with Hana has been incredibly healing. She creates a space of safe intimacy where I've been able to explore and shift old patterns of shame and unworthiness. The IFS framework is powerful and Hana uses it masterfully.” - C., Los Angeles

“I have loved my work with Hana.  Her deep openness and receptiveness to all experience and sensation, to mind, body and spirit, past, present and future, are some of the qualities that made my work with her valuable to me on innumerable levels.  She offers insights with sensitivity, warmth and humor, and feels like both guide and companion through the process.” - R., Boston
